Long trip coming up and you're looking for a fun game to play in the car? How about this fun, travel-sized chess set you can create with the laser? It'll provide hours of entertainment on vacation for you and your opponent. In each of the chess board squares is a little hole that the pegged chess pieces fit snuggly into.
For this project, we used a 35-watt Mini 24 with the following settings:
Black lines:12% speed, 100% power, 5000 frequency
Red lines:100% speed, 100% power, 500 frequency
Adjust the settings for your laser and wattage using the suggested settings from the manual.
Next cover an area of 11" x 7" with double sided tape on the back of the white acrylic sheet (the blue area in the photo).
Open the chess_white.cdr file and send it to your laser using the appropriate settings for cutting 1/8" acrylic.
Now that you have all the pieces cut you are ready to begin assembly of your Acrylic Travel Chess Set. Use Figure C to the right and the pictures below as a guide.
Try using different color acrylics for your own customized look. Have fun!
Insert the cover into the upper left corner of the laser and send the job!
If you'd like more depth or contrast on your engraving, leave the cover in place and run the job again. If you're satisfied with the depth and contrast of the engraving, you're all set!
We'll send you a brochure, as well as engraved and cut samples created with the laser.
